Earlier this month we saw the back of the old Truman Brewery turn into a very alternative art fair. Now in it's second year, the Art Car Boot Fair sponsored by Vauxhall, is a non-pretentious and affordable event where artists come out to play and put competing aside (well, mostly).
There were all manner of things to get involved in, with a live ‘graffiti-off’ car painting from the Scrawl Collective versus our friend Miss Led, an opportunity to own a racehorse for £2 and lots of stuff for the kids.

Later on, it got a bit chaotic with prints from the don of pop art, Sir Peter Blake, for only £25! We navigated the winding queue of eBayers and asked a few people what they had on offer on their stalls.

Miss Led
Gleaming in the sun was a white vinyl-covered car with the beginnings of a story. Miss Led told us that last year she was "serving cocktails here," but this time round she had been asked to animate a car. After illustrating the walls of the Diesel flagship stores in Covent Garden, Manchester and Bluewater, as well as the insides of Cargo (which we filmed) she put in major overtime in the last few weeks to produce a body of work to accompany the ‘graffiti-off’ against the Scrawl Collective, including illustrations and accessories. Keep your eyes peeled for her new website coming soon!

Minister for Alternative Transport
Worried about rising petrol costs and panic buying? Do you feel London transport is not quite up to scratch? Francis Thorburn has appointed himself as Minister of Alternative Transport for London, exhibiting what looked liked an oversized crossbreed of a go-cart and a hackney carriage. It took five weeks to build and was pushed around the car park at an excruciatingly slow pace.

Carter Presents...
Carterpresents.com created some much-needed shade with their stall. Low down on the floor was a tent filled with comfy cushions and televisions showing video shorts. These displayed four chosen up and coming artists including Dallas Seitz (another familiar face), Daniel Jackson, Derek Ogbourne and Thomas Draschan.

Egg Boxcars
Mark Scott-Wood describes his work as "renegade installations". When I caught up with him he was running around the site strategically placing his egg box trucks around other events and stalls, leaving a trail of confusion in his wake.

Bell and Barley set up an emotional baggage drop-off booth – write something down you wish to forget or leave behind and leave it with them.

Controversial Debates
Want an alternative to charades or scrabble? The Controversial Debates Game is all that and more! With cards sparking all sorts of emotions and views it’s a good way to get to know the in-laws or maybe have that inevitable Christmas argument flare up a little earlier? For starters try ‘Consumerism is a form of social control’ or ‘Idolising celebrities is creating shallow small minded outlooks and attitudes in society’. As I said at the start, something for everyone!
