Fashion. We love it. Every new season brings with it a huge plethora of catwalk shows by designers around the world, illustrating the craft as a fantastic feat of artistry, creativity and all-round faaahhhhbulousness.

On the other hand… as entertaining as it is to watch a new collection unfolding on the runway, there are some designs that definitely aren’t suitable for everyday wear. Whether it’s life-sized French bread headpieces or alienesque body glitter, could you really see yourself rocking one of these looks on your weekly Tescos run? Treading a (very) fine line between sublime and ridiculous, here are some of the most ridiculous styles to ever hit the catwalk.

Walter Van Beirendonck (S/S12)

Who would’ve guessed that the er, giant Wotsit look would come back in style? This conceptual creation by Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck will certainly turn heads in the street. And possibly cause a car crash or two. 

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada (A/W09)

And you thought that fashion and food were mutually exclusive. Italian designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada is obviously a woman who enjoys her breakfast – we think this greasy look would work well a tasty update to the Little Chef uniform.

Fyodor Golan (A/W12)

Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman are the minds behind new Lonon-based label Fyodor Golan, who showed this debut collection at London Fashion Week. We’re guessing that ‘glam alien villain’ was the inspiration behind this runway look – perfect for job interviews, or a casual night in with friends.

Bas Kosters A/W11

This ensemble by Dutch designer Bas Kosters is something else. Looking like a cross between a Yayoi Kusama print and a Muppets TV Special, it might be a bit much to wear on a first date, but it might work as the entertainment feature at your kid sister’s birthday party.

Adriana Bertini

Now, we’re all for being safe, but Brazilian designer Adriana Bertini really has taken things to another level. These rubber 'Condom Couture' dresses are creative, colourful and 100% recycled, using quality-test rejected condoms (yep, you’re going to have to keep buying your own, sucks).

Michael Lau (S/S10)

Back in 2009, innovative artist and designer toy maker Michael Lau turned his hand to designing for Hong Kong Fashion week. Evoking Phantom of the Opera, Casper the Friendly Ghost and a seriously messed-up octopus all at once, this design is guaranteed to scare the bejesus out of anyone you meet. One to keep in mind for Halloween.
