Peter Pillotto for Kipling

Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos are the designers behind the London based label Peter Pilotto. Their signature abstract patterns are created from distorting microscopic images of the natural world creating ‘vibrant galaxy prints’. This autumn the label has joined forces with renowned practical and sporty Belgian bag brand Kipling. The capsule collection launches exclusively in London’s Selfridges for two weeks from the 8 September to coincide with London Fashion Week.

The pair come from a dynamic heritage, with Pilotto being half-Italian, half-Dutch and De Vos being half-Belgian, half-Peruvian, the duo have drawn inspiration not only from microscopic prints in the natural world but also their cultural diversity. The designers met while studying at Antwerp’s prestigious Royal Academy of Art and have already claimed the title of Best Emerging Talent at the British Fashion Awards in 2009. Their take on womenswear is embracing ‘both new and classic perspectives on elegance’. Their distinctive digital and machine prints have gained them attention from the fashion industry worldwide.

Uniting the visual and bold print style of Peter Pilotto and the chic and functional design of Kipling bags has resulted in a unique capsule collection consisting of 11 high quality feminine and fashionable bags with vibrant galaxy and machine prints. The range also includes five accessories. The collection includes shoulder bags, shoppers, backpacks, waist bags, wallets and Peter Pilotto’s own take on the signature Kipling monkey. The collaboration between the two internationally known designers has provided easy access for consumers to buy original Peter Pilotto designs. The pair described their inspiration behind the print for the Kipling bags: “When we started thinking about designing the print for the collection we thought of an intergalactic traveller, a sort of otherworldly nomad who is exploring and discovering.’

Artistic director for Kipling Isabelle Cheron has already previously collaborated with other up and coming young designers such as Cathy Pill, Gloria Coelho and now the latest union with Peter Pilotto. The collaborations have turned Kipling from practical bag brand to cutting edge brand. Kipling sells their iconic bags in over 60 countries worldwide and boasts that ‘there are more Kipling bags than there are people in Belgium.’

If you can’t get down to Selfridges Between the 8 and 23 September then don’t worry, the spacey bags will be available in Kipling outlets or online from late September.
