Just off Stokes Croft is a building considered to be a local landmark by both Bristol City Council and the local club scene. When it opened it’s doors Lakota was "deemed as one of the most famous clubs in the country outside London," putting Bristol on the map and dashing it’s mellow music stereotype. As one of the most infamous clubs in Britain, with a thriving culture that remains to this date, Lakota has played host to the creme de la creme of DJ talent including Carl Cox, Danny Rampling, Roger Sanchez and Judge Jules as well as acting as a platform for local musical talent. Over the past few years, Lakota stepped back a little from classic house vibes to dip it’s toes in other pies, teaming up with local young promoters to supply Bristol’s new generation of clubbers with a combination of house, drum and bass, psy-trance, dubstep, techno and hardcore.
It’s A Birthday Ting!
Celebrating 20 years of party throwing experience, Lakota invite you to It’s A Birthday Ting! An all day, all night, 90’s extravaganza celebrating all things Lakota, from the DJs that made Lakota famous to world record attempts to the era we younguns wish we had partied in.
Kicking the day off in 90s style, London’s Reggae Roast Sound System will be taking over the Court from 1pm with carnival vibes and old school hip-hop, RnB, underground DnB and jungle from the likes of DJ Dazee and DJ Krust.
In 2001, Richard Dolby was challenged to break the world record for the longest set and smashed it, playing for a solid 48 hours and 3 minutes. Dolby is teaming up with Lakota yet again to demolish yet another title, the current DJ relay record. With the record currently standing at 100 DJs, 100 records, it would be rude not to destroy this on such a special day. The relay kicks off at 6pm and they want you involved. It’s A 90s Ting!
The night is dedicated to all things 90s and the DJ’s that gave Lakota it’s name. House and techno spun by, and only by, Lakota’s most renowned, memorable and original resident DJs of the 90s including Jon Da Silva, Billy Nasty and Jon Kelly.
