Bristol’s finest bashment and karnival selector, Dub Boy, serves up the summer vibes for the first in a series of 'Don’t Panic Bristol Presents’ mixes - and this inaugural installment really is something special...

Dub Boy is the founder of Ruffnek Diskotek, Bristol’s hugely popular underground bass music and bashment club night. Over recent months, he's been busy putting together this exclusive Don’t Panic mix with the aim to not just make your booty shake, but also to educate! This is the first dancehall mix that the Bristol-based selector has conjured up for a few years now, and boy have we missed them! So, get ready for some sure-fire gems that'll no doubt provide the perfect soundtrack for your British summertime, come rain or shine!

Amongst Bristol’s vibrant underground club culture, the bashment sound is ever present. With the distinctly Caribbean sounds regularly seeping out from beneath the doors of wine-bar-in-the-ghetto Cosies in St Pauls, via the likes of Shanti Sound, Ghettospheric and DJ SkyLion to name a few, whilst Easton's The Black Swan, with its squat-party-meets-rave-den interior, plays host to darker bashment styles at nights such as Bashout and Mongrel. Other club nights such as The Sureskank Convention, Shit The Bed (at which Dub Boy is a resident) and Dutty Bass also keep the sound moving with their own unique multi-genre events, where dancehall and bashment play an important part in the bass-heavy musical mix.
Dub Boy's role in keeping Bristol in the know when it comes to exciting and emerging new sounds should not be underestimated. The nights he helps promote such as Ruffnek Diskotek, Monster Bass and Karnival have been responsible over recent years for introducing Bristol to many of the hottest names in bass music. Artists such as The Bug, Joker, Poirier, Benga, The Heatwave, David Rodigan, Toddla T and Warrior Queen have all touched down inside one of Dub Boy's dances!

Keeping tabs on what’s hot and what’s not in all things bashment is what sets Dub Boy apart from many other dancehall selectors out there. Since 2004, he's been pushing the sound when nobody else was, relentlessly searching for new dubs, remixes and exclusives from across the Atlantic to get club goers waists-a-winding! From bassline remixes, to dubstep dubs of infamous reggae dancehall riddims, to unheard karnival house beats with that all important Caribbean summer vibe, Dub Boy's selections keep ahead of the trends while paying respect to the past.

So, expect plenty of big club bangers, party anthems and fresh dubs in this exclusive 'Don't Panic Bristol Presents: Dancehall Nice Again' mix from Dub Boy - art librarian by day, riddim selecta by night!
