What You Don't Know About... Monsta
Here at Don’t Panic we have our collective ear permanently glued to the artistic ground. Each issue our WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT… section alerts your attention to a hot young artist that you probably didn't know about. This issue we have Ben Somers aka Monsta. If you are a fan of drum and bass, dubstep, breaks or any kind of bass-heavy repetitive electronic music that gets played to weird-looking young people out of their minds in dark sweaty clubs way beneath the city streets, then you may well have spotted the recent slew of freaky nightmare-themed rekkid covers he’s been doing for everyone.
Right before this interview I was… being ill. I have man-flu (the worst kind of flu there is).
My studio space is… damp, crowded and a total shit-hole. I should really clear away all the Rizla packets, old spray-cans and beer cans, but they add a kind of ‘ambience’ that’s hard to replicate through other means.
The inspirations for my most recent work are… just being really unhappy and pissed off about stuff and trying to express things I find myself unable to put into words that come out of my mouth. Deep.
The Art world is… full of idiots that talk too much shit.
The music I am listening to at the moment is… Burial’s Untrue and Beezy’s My Construction album.
The voices in my head are saying… Go. To. Pub. They can’t be ignored or they get angry.
After this I am going… To. The. Pub (duh).
