What happens if the DJ line ups at this years’ summer festivals just aren’t cutting it? Who you gonna call? Well, you may have noticed an unassuming bus nestled among the tents and stages at most of the summer jams, with not-so unassuming sounds emanating from it. In fact, the Myspace Bus has been unofficially credited with the cult prize ‘the best place to be during the whole weekend’ at both Rockness and Gatecrasher. Wanna know why? We let our friend Sam Laurence, who is bus manager and programmer, tell us about some of the best bus bits that went down/hit the fan etc.
With Dan Le Sac Vs Scoobius Pip's main stage show being cancelled at Gatecrasher, they were only playing on the Myspace Bus. 400 people then turned up and started going mad inside and outside the bus – it was almost bouncing in the air!
Also at Gaterasher, Boys Noize coming from playing in front of thousands of people to playing in front of 50 heads on the bus. Dropping Underworld's Born Slippy and the whole bus going crazy - everyone almost crying.
Adam Freeland banging it out on the bus at Gatecrasher in front of a crowd including Annie Mac, Justice, Kissy Sell Out, Boy 8-Bit, Black Ghosts + Crookers.
Busy P + Mehdi playing on the bus at Crasher. Crookers chilling out on deck chairs out the front. Pedro drops a Crookers track - both jump up off deck chairs and go crazy, eventually about 300 people are outside the bus going wild.
Sinden smashing out a set on the bus for an hour more than planned at Rockness, with MCs spitting outside - 400 people watching. People went so mental inside that a window was smashed - end of festival fireworks going off in the background, carried on playing until all other stages had stopped.
And the pièce de résistance, seeing Pete Tong DJ on a sweaty, rammed Routemaster - nuff said!
There seems to be a definite fondness for seeing DJs in a smaller space, even if they’ve just finished playing a… slightly bigger space. It gives punters the feeling that they're even more part of the action. So credit to the Myspace team because packing big-time DJs onto a tiny bus is a good idea.
