The Duke of York’s Picturehouse

The Duke of York’s is far and away the best cinema in Brighton. From its Edwardian architecture to it’s diverse programme of films, from its luxury sofa seats in the balcony to its fully licensed bar (yes it’s the only cinema in Brighton where you can enjoy a beer whilst watching a film!).

The Duke’s has been showing the best of cinema for over 100 years. Opened in September 1910, the Duke’s is the only original cinema left in Brighton and is the oldest operating cinema in the UK.

Today the Duke’s specializes in showing a wide range of movies from all over the world. You’ll find the best in contemporary Hollywood cinema mixed with world cinema, diverse and controversial documentaries, local films and an eclectic range of late night classics and all night movie marathons. The Duke’s has recently grown as a great venue for live music, The Kills, Kimya Dawson, Peggy Sue, Esben and The Witch, Tim Robbins and The Rogue Gallery Band, Angus and Julia Stone, The Go! Team, Emmy The Great and more have all graced the stage to sold out crowds. The band Why? have an upcoming show on 25th October.

The Duke’s is also at the center of CineCity – The Brighton Film Festival, which each year delivers an incredibly rich selection of films in a variety of genres and formats from all over the world.
