Victoria Topping Illustration
Bristol’s Stokes Croft is becoming a hotbed of Bristol creativity, churning out some incredibly talented artists with its high density of art spaces and studios. One gem working within this creative haven is Victoria Topping, an illustrator with a passion for all things disco.
Victoria is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer based in Stokes Croft Studios, a cooperative of artists, illustrators and fashion designers which she co-directs.

Her work is vibrant, playful and heavily references disco and boogie music. Also a DJ under the pseudonym Tina Turntables, she takes artistic inspiration from the records in her DJ box, with a recent exhibition including portraits of Shannon, Prince and Grace Jones.

Creating new colourful worlds, Victoria uses Photoshop and Illustrator to bring depth and vibrancy to her vector based images. Geometric patterns and 1950s space diagrams are also a strong influence. Her pieces are incredibly intricate and include a multitude of jazzy objects – a portrait of Prince features a Chevrolet, palm trees and cosmic planets.

Victoria is the daughter of a wallpaper historian and has grown up working closely with her mother on restoration projects. She's now expanded her work into wallpaper design and created a new range 'Exotica' which features tigers and skulls.

As well as designing posters, logos and designs for Bristol projects and club nights such as Furnish, Ghettospheric and UFO, she has a host of exciting projects coming up in 2010. Start the Bus have commissioned a wallpaper for their new shop launching in March, she'll be creating a logo and illustrations for Crazy P's new album and will host her first solo exhibition in London, 'Experiments in Shape and Interplanetary Music' in May.
