Master of the Macintosh David Ho knows how to get under your skin. If you can scroll through the following collection of sinister creatures and burnt out landscapes without feeling a cold breeze lapping at your neck, then you're well brave. Don't Panic chatted amiably to him, but always with one eye on the door.
Hi David. What are you working on at the moment?
Currently working on a cover for a fantasy book and an illustration for a magazine article. Also, I haven't created my own personal works for several months now, so I'm working on that as well.
Much of your work has a supernatural vibe - do you believe in ghosts, aliens or anything far out like that?
Ya, I've always been into that kind of artwork. Even though my works portray alien worlds, I think the themes I depict are always human. I believe there are aliens out there. In a universe so grand, I doubt we are the only living organisms. As for ghosts, I'm a firm believer in them as well. It was a couple years ago that my friend's father, who is somewhat 'spiritually connected', noticed a spirit hovering around me and asked if I ever had an abortion with a girl and I told him 'yes' but this happened many years ago. He said I would have to take care of that (go to temples and pray, etc...) to rid that spirit. It kinda freaked me out.
A lot of the pictures are pretty dark as well; to what extent does that reflect your outlook?
I would say they reflect it 100 percent. I'm a complete pessimist. If my glass is half empty, in my head I'm already thinking when it's going to be finished and where I shall get my next glass.
Do you have a favourite animal to draw? You certainly seem to enjoy pigs.
The pig I think I've gotten out of my system so as of now, I would probably say there's no favourite animal I like to depict.
Our current theme is government - which politicians, past or present do you admire?
I've never been an avid follower of politics, but I would say Clinton. While he was president our economy flourished and life seemed pretty good overall. It seems that life was so good that we ended up focusing on trying to impeach him over his infidelities (in today's poor economy and with the Iraq war still going on), it seems very trivial.
