Is MDMA Dead? | Don't Panic online Magazine

I’m sad to say I have some sorry news. Cancel your Glastonbury plans – MDMA is dead! Perhaps you knew already. Personally, I was first alerted to the situation on New Years Eve – while I was buzzing off my small circular chest lumps. A good friend told me that a Japanese pharmaceutical company that produced one of the main components of MDMA (one of the 'M's apparently) was shut down last year after government pressure. “Codswallop!” I said and carried on talking shit in someone else’s ear.

I haven’t done the stuff since and so forgot my mate’s prophetic words, but then on Friday night I realised that he was right. MDMA is over! And what seems to be replacing it is a little terrifying.

A group of friends and I made our way to a serious off the shit rack electro night with a trusted source (tried & tested) supplying a batch of the aforementioned. What can only have been described as a night of psychotropic-tripped-out-chaos ensued with cries of “I feel like a soft-shelled crab” echoing through the ulta-jam-out interior of this sweaty party pit.

Within an hour people were either sitting on the sides of sofas trapped in their heads, puking, or desperately trying to sober up enough to find some other drugs just to level out. This was dangerous internal drowning of the ego with not a whiff of joyous connection to the music, people or even the lasers. The plateau of the drug remained the same as real MDMA, it’s just all the fun bits that had vanished - tarnished by what must have been a rough mix of ketamine, bad speed and god knows what else. When I came back from the internal cave of absurdly intimate questioning of my soul (having lost my guts along the way) I looked around and realised that the majority of the crowd (who must have been a good ten years younger than us) were just not “buzzing” in the way I remember from back in the day. There was a distinct lack of love in the place….. man. But seriously, there was.

It poses a serious question as festival season commences. What now? The demand is there but the product isn’t. It could just be me. It could be that this is all just urban myth and we just got mugged but I don’t think so. ‘All good things…’ as the saying goes. Was fun while it lasted.

MDMA Have lived in Far East and, if there is enough money in it, they will make anything you want - to a very high std. and price - on time. Problem is getting it shipped into UK without losing all of it in customs & run the risk of losing your good supplier......Anon

Following reports of the return of old-skool strength pills (friends : "amazing... only need half"), we were happy(ish) to pay more - @ £15 to be exact. Only for nothing much to happen! Not even £3 worth (which is what standard strength pills cost a few years back) The problem is that our acceptance of old-skool prices means it's too tempting for manufacturers/dealers to rip you off for such a big profit margin!

http://www.urb.com/2010/02/02/mr-c-dark-moon-interview/ Extract from an interview that Mr C gave recently. Is Ebeneezer still good? Good question. Safrole, which is a vital ingredient of MDMA has been made very difficult to come across & therefore so much more expensive. This has led to the manufacture of cheaper E with cheaper ingredients which in truth are pretty crap. There are however discerning chemists that are happy to use the more expensive Safrole, who realize that there are those of us that are happy to pay considerably more for the hit they desire. So yes, Ebeneezer is indeed still good when he does on the odd occasion go raving.

...and yes for clarity's sake Plant Food = Mephedrone, I'm pretty sure people were calling it Megatron last year (or was that something else, hard to tell which did what by that point) but haven't heard it stick... shame it's a much better name.

There was a dip in MDMA for a while but now it's back just more expensive than before. However because of the lack last festival season we saw drugs such as Plant Food (M Cat, etc) take over (along with a bunch of pretty lame MDMA subs with the missing component changed for something else). Not sure what it's like where your from but far as I can tell Plant Food is the raving drug of choice as it's cheap, cheerful (until the rather depressive come down) and fairly easy to obtain. Plus that can't be the drug you were witnessing as it makes you love just a little too much. I'm personally not a massive fan, there's some wrongess in there that doesn't agree with my soul or body but in many ways it has helped to revive the party scene, far more agreeable socially than coke or ketamine which have dominated for far too long.

I'd say this is a fairly bad article with bad and ill informed comments that only contribute to rumour spreading. That a supplier of the components of MDMA "one of the "M"s supposedly..", what the hell does that even mean?!

yes, agree with most of the comments here - this story would have been on the money and reflected most of the conversations people were having had it been written about a year ago. now it seems md has returned in all its crystalline glory. hopefully all the suckers who got excited about mephedrone won't have figured that out yet.

The bastards have, as they say, won the war!! - In prohibiting MDMA, which used to leave us loving anyone and everything, they have created a monster in the shape of all sorts of research chemicals and so on and on and on....none of which actually come anything close to the way it was. Kids today believe they are rolling, buzzing and all other fun terms of experience, but have no idea what it is they are actually being duped out of - MDMA is dead, long live (please god, no!) the 'drone!!!!

mdma was not around all last year, but it's back (and has been since December '09), alive and well.. in both pill form and in crystal form, and all around the UK. You're obviously looking in the wrong places!! What you're describing is probably 'bunk' pills, or 'sweets', that you can pick up 4 for 10 quid. They usually contain substances such as Piperazine, which gives a weird tripped out buzz. But the genuine mdma pills that have returned are far more expensive, so you get what you pay for!!

Yeah right, it ain't as good as it used to be. Just read the google groups posts from alt.rave or uk.music.techno from the early 90s and see how incredibly unoriginal this story is.

I noticed this with ecstacy pills a while ago... I might have originally been buying shit ones and loving the high speed content I suppose, but the last few times I was slipped an E, I felt unsociable, non talkative and bummed out... but still high as a kite. I havent bothered since

sorry to say - this article is already outdated. mdma is back and a lot of the stories surrounding its brief disappearance seem to be rumour - there is a theory that the whole thing was a price adjustment by people high up the chain. it was unfeasibly cheap for a while, and now it has returned, is on a par with coke prices. would offer my number but seems unwise...
