Founded by Ehrhardt Koch in 1920, New Era entered the market with high-quality men’s fashion headwear. As fashion evolved, so did New Era, and in the 1930s, the Company began making caps appropriate for America’s favorite, and timeless, pastime - baseball. It was then that the 59Fifty Fitted Cap was born.  

In the 80s, baseball fans became interested in wearing the identical cap worn by their favorite players on the field - the New Era 59Fifty. The trend caught fire and became a huge business that has grown exponentially for New Era and the 59Fifty quickly became the American sports fan’s favorite fitted cap. 

The 59Fifty was, and still is today, the absolute leader in fit, fashion and function. It started out as a movement and set the standards for all other caps to follow.

New Era pretty much have the market cornered when it comes to caps. They basically run things. As such, they've had literal boatloads of high & mighty guest designers, including Spike Lee, Danny Way, Travis Barker, Gym Class Heroes, Fat Joe, Dizzy Rascal, and Jake Burton. We'd like one of you to add to their catalogue with your hot headwear design, so we're opening a competition to give you the chance.

Alongside super cool sneaker shop Footasylum we want you to get involved and design your own New Era 59FIFTY fitted cap. The winning design will become the next Footasylum exclusive and sold at Footasylum stores throughout the UK. We're also offering two runners up 12 pieces of their own design.

Artwork:
Designs must be done using the template provided. Designs can be submitted either by post or by using the webform.

When submitting your designs on the web form, please convert it either to JPG or PNG format at 72 Dpi. If you are chosen as the winner, the final design must be provided as as an Illustrator AI file (CS2), or a high quality editable PDF.

Resolution:
All art should be in vector format. If you use images to create your art, please compose it in Photoshop, then trace the art in Illustrator for the artwork.

Base colours:
Colour is optional however New Era will use a stock fabric and colour match.

Logos:
The New Era flag logo is a consistent feature on the 59FIFTY and size and position will not change however the logo colour is changeable and the logo can be in filled.

Materials:
Standard base fabric should be wool or cotton twill, although other fabrics will be considered. Applications include embroidery, flocking, embossing, print, patent, animal print etc.

Techniques:
Optional. Feel free to consider the use of prints, studs, stitches, perforations, debossings etc.

Print colours:
All colour needs to be Pantone and the maximum amount of print colours is 5.

Debossing:
Debossed graphics can be used, alone or with print infills. This is quite costly, so should be simple shapes.

The winner will have their design sold exclusively through Foot Asylum stores in the UK and will receive 12 pieces of the finished design.

The 2 runners up will receive 12 pieces of their own 59FIFTY fitted cap.

The production of the winning design is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of New Era.
