Take The Challenge Pass It On’ Viral 2 – brief
Nic Briscoe Head of CFR & HE Jan 2010

Brief

To submit pitches with budget ASAP (this should include details of current availability going forward 6 to 9 months and, if applicable, the names / roles of all team members).

Purpose?

·To raise awareness, and hence funds for Chestnut Tree House.
·To create a hard hitting (eg moving, funny, informative – any one of these or any combination) viral that would genuinely entice the recipient to ‘Take the Challenge, and Pass It On’.
·To support planned / scheduled Chestnut’s Challenge activity, in particular Educational Establishments DM campaign: starts week beginning 29th March 2010; mailing to all cold educational establishments in East and West Sussex (eg Primary and Middle, Secondary, Private and 6th form / University ); to introduce CTH and CC; and ask them to fundraise in Children’s Hospice Week (15th May); main focus will be the Friday 21st May – “Super Hero Day” (dress up as super hero and raise money for CTH).
·To continue, compliment and consolidate the foundation formed by viral 1 (‘Meet the Challengers’ film at http://www.challengesussex.org.uk).

Audience?

How long’s a piece of string? Basically our target audience is ALL SUSSEX! This viral could be aimed squarely at younger people of school and college age – they influence their parents! I would like to see something that appeals to a wide cross section of people, but it needs the WOW factor, so maybe for young people it’s FUNNY as oppose to informative and moving… but who can say? Long story short – demographic is hard to pin down. If this poses a problem explain to us why? And what we should do to resolve?

Media?

Any digital media eg film, animation, interactive game etc etc

When for?

Signed, sealed and delivered by 12th March 2010 latest

Possible routes?

·Develop creative content (eg storylines / scripts etc) to continue on from the introduction to Chestnut’s Challengers delivered by ‘Meet the Challengers’ as the first episode in a ‘to be continued’ serial (possible 3 episodes in total).
·Develop hard-hitting ‘out of the box’ viral content unrelated to the ‘Meet the Challengers’ film eg interactive Flash game (maybe, but not necessarily, featuring Chestnut’s Challengers)

Current team

On this project at this stage we have an established team – both in house and freelance. The gap in the team is for a ‘creative’ eg a visionary ideas person who can grasp what’s been done so far, fit in to the current team framework, and come up with and deliver on a deadline the overall game plan / scripts / game idea / interactive media idea etc etc….

Budget considerations

CTH is a charity; however we don’t expect anything for nothing, and have a long term view with regards developing valuable partnerships. There is a budget for this project, and a realistic one. Please keep all this in mind when submitting your pitch.

Listen. The Sanctuary of the redeemers on Shotover Scarp is named after a damned lie, for there is no redemption that goes on there and less sanctuary.

Don’t Panic has teamed up with Penguin books for the chance to design artwork for their biggest fiction launch of the decade, The Left Hand of God by Paul Hoffman.
Already receiving rave reviews, the book centres around a mysterious, secretive, charming and violent young boy, Thomas Cale, an occupant of the desolate Sanctuary under the brutal regime of the Lord Redeemers.

So used to the cruelty bestowed upon him that he seems immune to it all, soon he will open the wrong door at the wrong time and witness an act so terrible that he will have to leave the place, or die …

To celebrate the hardback publication of this must-read book, we have launched a visual design competition, for which the winner will have their artwork printed on the infamous Don’t Panic poster and also the chance to have artwork featured in association with Penguins promotion of the LHOG paperback.

What we are looking for is artistic representation of the lead character Thomas Cale. There are three excerpts to choose from, all giving a sneak peak of the character and his surroundings. We want you to use your artistic knowhow and design skills to create your interpretation of Thomas Cale using the text provided.
Each excerpt is different so please only choose one to base your design of Thomas Cale on.

Download excerpts here

We’ve also got an exclusive clip of the author himself talking about the atmosphere of the book, which might help you to imagine the world of Thomas Cale.

Its peer-to-peer, folks, so vote for the ones you like (or hate!) and the top ten will be put to a shortlist. The top three can win some fantastic prizes with the winner having the ultimate chance to be a part of the history of The Left Hand of God, and have their artwork featured in one of the most exciting fiction releases ever. You’ve got until 7th April to submit your artwork
